With the Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palettes, Guerlain Is Closing In on Chanel and Dior - Makeup and Beauty Blog
Nigh of my experience with Guerlain makeup has been with their lipsticks, which, while hella expensive, are some of my favorites amidst any brand I've ever tried. The Rouge Thousand's, in particular, are wonderful means to splurge in the makeup department. Smoothen, rich, long-lasting colour, and that exquisite packaging with the hidden mirror in the cap?
TO. Dice.
I haven't spent as much fourth dimension playing with the other products in the line, but since I beloved the lipsticks so much, I couldn't wait to see what the company's new line of eyeshadows had to offer.
Each of the nine new Ecrin 4 Couleurs palettes ($59 each) comes with four shadows — one each in matte, satin, metal and iridescent finishes — in varying levels of coverage. Like the lippies, the sleek gilt compacts come dressed to thrill. Everything almost the presentation hither, from the etched Guerlain logo on the front end, to the heft of the palette in the mitt, feels like luxury.
Based on the two palettes I've tried, Les Bleus and Les Noirs, I find myself existence drawn to the irised shades, with their opalescent particles that gently illuminate my skin when the light hits them but right. The event reminds me of a pulverization-puff lens filter or the lite from a soft-white bulb. Generally, all of the shadows in each of the palettes are solid, finely milled and take a featherlike soft texture that effortlessly blends.
Even so, the price ($59) is quite high, fifty-fifty when you consider that the colors piece of work out to $fourteen.75 per pan — just 25 cents more than the toll of a MAC eyeshadow single. It would also be easier to accept if it weren't for one thing…

Creasing. Fifty-fifty with the assistance of my current favorite primer, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, these pucker later on simply a few hours on me. Granted, it'due south far from bad — just a flake on the inner part of my lids — but still. I can't help feeling that information technology shouldn't be an upshot at all for products every bit pricey as these. Also, the lighter colors in the palettes appear to fade a fiddling afterwards a few hours of wear. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the darker shades, though.
Additional makeup worn in this look…
- FACE — MAC Strobe Foam, MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42, MAC Studio Careblends Powders in Light Plus, Medium Dark and Dark and MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW30
- EYES — NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, Do good Instant Forehead, Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara and Buxom Amplified Mascara
- CHEEKS — MAC Semi Precious Mineralize Blush in Feeling Flushed and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Semi Precious Rose Quartz

I still call back there'southward a lot to love about these, and Chanel and Dior had meliorate sentry out. They combine Chanel's soft, elegant texture with Dior's fashion-frontwards colors, and if Guerlain can merely iron out a couple of minor bug with performance, I'd accept a new reason to captivate. 🙂
